" The Moderate Golfers, The Moderate Bikers, The Moderate Rangers, etc. These are the titles of a series of paintings I started back in 2009 that I could sum up as THE MODERATES series. 

With a style that shows similarities with the famous Persian miniatures, I refer to the concept of “moderate Muslims,” invented by Americans and Europeans to describe Muslims with whom they can engage in dialogue—those in war zones in the Middle East who are willing to negotiate with occupying forces.

The problem with this concept of “moderate” is that it gives importance to individuals who do not represent Muslims. Moreover, it legitimises extremist Muslims who claim to be the « true Muslims ». "
